Chitranjali Studio Complex, located atop a beautiful hillock at Thiruvallam en route to the ever-enchanting Kovalam beach, is within 8 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala .
Technical Facilities
The Studio indoor covers an area of 12,000 sq. ft. the second largest of its kind in Asia while the sound proof floor has a ceiling 50 ft high.
Chitranjali has four outdoor film units with bound vans and state-of-the-art equipments. The labs are among the finest and most modern in Asia . The printing process is completely computerised with a Hazaltine colour film analyser for grading. Facilities are available to process and print 35 mm, 16 mm colour, 16 mm black & white film , for reduction of 35 mm film to 16 mm film and blowing up 16 mm into 35 mm film.
Chitranjali studio has two studios with state of the art facilities.The main studio has protocols HD 3 workstation on a Mac platform with Tascam D8000 digital mixing console The mixing facility is for mono films only at present but is bound to be updated for surround mixing in the near future.
The recording hall has one of the most perfectly done acoustics.The movable panels on the wall enable one to ary the RT according to the requirements.This hall has double walls and double ceiling with an air gap in between,so as to get the perfect sound proofing required for a recording hall.It also has a folio stage with a built in water tabk and other pits for creating sync sound effects.
There is also another recording studio equipped with the latest version of Nuendo audio workstation.
Chitranjali recordingtheatre staff have won many national and state awards including this years state award for audiography to our sound engineer Mr.N.Harikumar.
KSFDC recording theatres are frequented by greatfilm makers like Adoor Gopalakrishnan,Shaji.N.Karun,T.V.Chandran,to name a few.The great Malayalam film maker Late G.Aravindan used our recording facilities for almost all his films.
Analog recording facilities with Magna Tech recorders/reproducers and Philips Rock-n-Roll projector is even now ready for use for anybody who is interested in analog quality.
Chitranjali has two nonlinear edit suites adjacent to the recording facility. These have Avid Mojo system for film editing. The proximity of the edit suites to recording halls facilitates easy transfer of files and for preview on bog screen in the recording hall.
Chitranjali also has clean and dust proof negative cutting rooms with modern negative cutting tools.A number of Movilolas and a Steenbeck flat bed editing table are still available for anyone interested in using those machines.
Preview Theatre
An air conditioned Mini Theatre with a seating capacity of 100 in the studio is meant for previews and for other screening before a select audience.
Reaching Chitranjali anywhere by air is easy. Accommodation in Thiruvananthapuram is nice and pleasant. Highly competent technicians, excellent musicians, creative artistes are just a local call away. Film making in Chirtanjali is extremely cost effective, even forgetting the cash subsidy of Rs. 400,000 (Four Lakhs) provided by the Government of Kerala for the films produced with the facilities of this studio.
